Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chinese president, said Tuesday that he has reached an important consensus with General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) and Chairman of State Affairs of the DPRK Kim Jong Un on developing relations between China and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) in the new era.
The two sides also had in-depth discussions on safeguarding regional and global peace and stability, Xi said, while attending the luncheon hosted by Kim and his wife Ri Sol Ju with his wife Peng Liyuan.
Xi thanked Kim for his warm welcome and carefully organized the visit, noting that it allowed him to feel even more deeply the warmth and friendship extended by the Party, government and people of the DPRK to the Party, government and people of China.
Mutual understanding between China and the DPRK has deepened and broadened, and the development path for the future is now clearer and clearer, Xi said.
Xi also expressed his willingness to work with Kim to jointly promote further development of China-DPRK relations and inject new impetus into the socialist cause of the two countries.
For his part, Kim said Xi’s visit was a complete success, sending a positive message to the world that the DPRK and China are further strengthening friendly cooperation, attracting keen interest from many parties.
Xi’s visit is of great significance to bilateral relations and the future development of the region, he said, stressing that his country is willing to earnestly realize the important consensus reached during the visit, push for new concrete results in bilateral cooperation, and push the DPRK-China relations to a new, higher level.
On Tuesday afternoon local time, Xi concluded his state visit to the DPRK and left Pyongyang. Mr. Kim and his wife went to the airport to see off Mr. Xi and his wife, holding a grand farewell ceremony in their honor.
