The first major cruise ship built in China, the Adora Magic City, made 84 voyages and welcomed 600,000 tourists in its first year of commercial operation, according to Shanghai customs.
The ship began its maiden voyage on January 1 and has won over tourists, accounting for 40% of China’s international cruise market in 2024.
More than 3,000 passengers boarded the ship which docked at Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal on Sunday for a six-day New Year’s voyage.
The cruise ship, with a length of 323.6 meters, has a gross tonnage of 135,500 tonnes and can accommodate up to 5,246 passengers in 2,125 rooms.
With its long industrial chain and high degree of internationalization, the cruise industry is often called the “floating golden industry”. More than 1,000 Chinese and foreign manufacturers participated in the construction of Adora Magic City.
China’s second large cruise ship is expected to be delivered by the end of 2026 and will begin international voyages from Guangzhou in 2027.
