The Asian Winter Games, referred to as the “Asian Winter Games”, are a comprehensive winter sports meeting in Asia recognized by the International Olympic Committee and the largest comprehensive winter sports meeting in Asia.
The event is hosted by the Olympic Council of Asia and is usually held every four years.
Since 1986, the Asian Winter Games have been successfully held for eight times. As early as 1996, the 3rd Asian Winter Games was held in Harbin.
This Asian Winter Games has 6 major events, 11 sub-events and 64 minor events. 31% of the minor events are entering the Asian Winter Games for the first time. Among them, three events involving ski mountaineering have been identified as new events for the 2026 Milan-Cortina d’Ampezzo Winter Olympics, and will become an important test for athletes to prepare for the Milan Winter Olympics.
In terms of participating countries and regions, China, Japan and South Korea are all participating, with Cambodia and Saudi Arabia signing up for the first time. 16 countries and regions signed up for the curling event, a record number in all previous Asian Winter Games. The alpine skiing event has registrations from 25 countries and regions, making it the most popular event, including Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, and Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates in West Asia. These reflect the rapid development of ice and snow sports in Asia in recent years, especially after the Beijing Winter Olympics.
