Chinese President Xi Jinping and his visiting Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin attended the opening ceremony of the China-Russia Years of Education on Wednesday at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
Speaking at the event, Xi said China-Russia cooperation in education has continued to deepen and achieved notable results over the years, enriching the connotation of the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era.
Taking the opportunity provided by the China-Russia Years of Education, the two sides should strengthen consensus on cooperation, expand areas of collaboration and raise the level of cooperation, Xi said.
He called for deepening cooperation in talent training and jointly addressing challenges in cutting-edge sciences to facilitate the innovation dynamics and development of the two countries.
He also stressed the need to put into practice the concept of mutual learning between civilizations, promote the exchange of experiences in educational governance and perpetuate traditional friendship to further unleash the potential of educational cooperation to promote mutual understanding and ties between the two peoples.
Putin, on a state visit to China, said the launch of the Russian-Chinese Years of Education was an important step.
“By strengthening educational cooperation, Russia is ready to work with China to improve mutual understanding between the younger generations of the two countries, ensure that the cause of Russian-Chinese friendship is passed down from generation to generation, and promote further development of bilateral relations,” he stressed.
