Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin jointly met the press on Wednesday at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
“This is President Putin’s 25th visit to China, which fully demonstrates the high level and special character of China-Russia relations,” Xi said.
Over the past 30 years, the status of China-Russia relations has been continuously elevated, reaching the highest level in the history of relations in the form of a comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era and setting a model of new-type relations between major powers, Xi noted.
Over the years, the two countries have made important contributions to upholding international fairness and justice and promoting the construction of a new type of international relations, becoming an essential constant amid profound global changes unprecedented in a century, he said.
Xi called for efforts to consolidate higher-quality mutual political trust and strengthen mutual strategic support. He said the two sides should continue to firmly support each other on issues affecting their core interests and major concerns, while continuing to strengthen strategic communication and exchanges at all levels.
The Chinese president stressed the need for China and Russia to strengthen higher-quality, mutually beneficial cooperation and jointly promote their development and revitalization. The two sides should deepen the alignment between China’s 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030) and Russia’s 2030 Development Strategy, and strengthen and improve mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, Xi said.
Xi stressed the need to promote better people-to-people exchanges and consolidate the foundation of lasting friendship between the two peoples from generation to generation.
The two sides should seize the opportunity provided by the “China-Russia Years of Education” initiative to further develop two-way student exchanges and deepen cooperation between universities and research institutes, he added.
Xi called on China and Russia to seek better international coordination and work together to reform and improve global governance.
The two countries must oppose all forms of unilateral intimidation and actions aimed at reversing the course of history, especially provocations denying the results of World War II and attempting to whitewash and revive fascism and militarism, he said.
Putin said that Russian-Chinese relations are currently at an unprecedented level, with the two countries constantly advancing bilateral cooperation in the spirit of mutual respect, mutual assistance on an equal footing and mutual support.
Cooperation between the two countries is not directed against any third parties and is not affected by geopolitical changes, Putin noted.
Russia and China will maintain close strategic coordination in the international arena and work together to uphold the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and preserve global security and stability, Putin added.
