Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, chatted over tea on Wednesday with Marie Khone Faye, wife of Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
Marie and Bassirou Diomaye Faye are in Beijing for the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and for the Senegalese President’s first state visit to China.
Ms. Peng expressed hope that the two peoples will deepen mutual understanding and friendship through cultural exchanges.
Ms. Peng said she is willing to share with Ms. Faye her experience in women’s education, health and other fields, so as to jointly promote the development of women’s causes in China and Africa.
Faye spoke highly of Peng’s long-term concern for women and children in African countries, including Senegal, and China’s support and assistance for the well-being of the Senegalese people. She expressed her willingness to strengthen exchanges and cooperation between the two sides and advance the cause of bilateral friendship.
