Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for strong measures to advance the modernization of agriculture and rural areas.
Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks during an inspection tour Wednesday in the city of Dezhou in eastern Shandong province.
Xi said efforts should be made to improve agriculture’s overall production capacity as well as its quality and profitability, ensure a stable supply of essential agricultural products such as grains, create a beautiful and harmonious rural environment in which to live and work according to local conditions, and help farmers build a better life through their hard work and wisdom.
In Dongyujia Village, Xi learned about the wheat harvest, corn planting and the supply of agricultural inputs in the region. He also visited a field where he had cordial exchanges with grain producers, agricultural machine operators and agricultural technicians.
He stressed that ensuring a stable supply of cereals and other agricultural products was the top priority in agricultural production, emphasizing the need to effectively implement all policies supporting cereal production to ensure a bumper harvest throughout the year.
Xi also called for greater efforts to improve agricultural infrastructure and strengthen capacities for disaster prevention, mitigation and relief in the agricultural sector.
Afterwards, Xi visited the nearby Xiyujia Village, where he learned in detail about strengthening local Party organizations and providing public services. He also visited an exhibition of agricultural products and agricultural derivatives.
Xi expressed hope that Party organizations at the rural level will continue to take full advantage of the leading role of Party building and make new progress in building a beautiful and harmonious rural environment in which to live and work.

Xi said Party members and officials should make greater efforts to work in the interests of the people, achieve concrete results for their well-being and respond to their difficulties, thereby enhancing their sense of contentment, happiness and security.
“We are preparing to celebrate the 105th anniversary of the Party as July 1 approaches,” Xi noted, stressing that over the past 105 years, the Party has united and guided the Chinese people of all ethnic groups to achieve great achievements worthy of history and the people.
“As we embark on this new march to make China a modern socialist country in all respects, we must join forces and continue to advance in this new Long March to build a better future and relentlessly respond to the people’s aspirations for a better life,” Xi said.
