The Xinhua Institute, a think tank of Xinhua News Agency, on Monday released a report titled “Chinese youth: Global achievers and contributors of the new era” at the 2026 World Youth Development Forum, held in the central Chinese city of Wuhan.
This 15,000-character report, structured into four chapters, namely “Contemporary Portrait of Chinese Youth”, “Guarantees for the Development of Chinese Youth”, “The Glorious Mission of Chinese Youth” and “Chinese Youth and Their Global Contributions”, examines the role that Chinese young people play in national and global development.
“In the complex context of our times, Chinese youth are finding their bearings and accomplishing the mission of their time: reconciling devotion to family and nation with personal ideals, as well as the interaction between national rejuvenation and the future of humanity,” the report said. “In doing so, she demonstrates remarkable qualities such as trust and inclusiveness, rationality and pragmatism, as well as diversity and a sense of openness.”
The report highlights that China’s modernization has opened up vast opportunities for young people to flourish and pursue their careers, but concrete challenges, such as uneven and insufficient development as well as demographic changes, have also put considerable pressure on today’s youth, both in their studies and in their professional and daily lives.
A stable social environment and constant political support constitute valuable support which allows young people to plan their future with complete peace of mind and to devote themselves to long-term projects, adds the report.
According to the report, today’s young Chinese are taking advantage of the opportunities offered by the country’s economic and social development and contributing to national progress through their concrete actions. They demonstrate higher overall competence, stronger innovation capability and a greater sense of social responsibility, becoming an important force in promoting China’s modernization, according to the report.
On the international stage, young Chinese people adopt a global outlook and actively participate in international science and technology cooperation, people-to-people exchanges and global governance, according to the report. They are infusing vigorous youthful dynamism into the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilization Initiative and the Global Governance Initiative, according to the report.
“China is ready to work with all countries to create more platforms for youth development and provide them with more opportunities to make their voices heard,” the report noted, calling on the younger generation to play a greater role in resolving global issues.
Experts and academics present at the forum highly praised the report, affirming that in the context of profound changes unseen in a century, young Chinese, builders and witnesses of the development of their own country, constituted an increasingly active young force in global governance. It is necessary to strengthen consensus in order to tackle global challenges together and build a better world, putting the vitality of youth at the service of the common development of humanity, they noted.
